Principles
Ten principles that govern every reconstruction, every publication, and every application of Reconstructography. These are not guidelines. They are laws.
Preserve Before Interpreting
Evidence must be collected and preserved in its original form before any interpretation begins. The act of interpretation must never alter the evidence itself. Preservation is not optional — it is the first law.
Transparency Over Authority
No conclusion is accepted on the basis of who made it. Every claim must be transparent about its evidence, its methodology, and its confidence level. Authority without transparency is not knowledge — it is assertion.
Separate Evidence From Story
Evidence and the stories built from it are always kept distinct. Evidence is what exists. Story is what we make of it. Conflating the two is the most common and most dangerous error in human understanding.
Contradictory Evidence Must Remain Visible
Evidence that contradicts a conclusion is never hidden, minimized, or discarded. It is preserved, noted, and presented alongside the conclusion it challenges. A reconstruction that hides its contradictions is not a reconstruction — it is propaganda.
Every Claim Has Provenance
Every statement of fact must be traceable to its source evidence. Claims without provenance are clearly marked as inference, hypothesis, or tradition. The chain of evidence is never broken.
Confidence Is Measured
Conclusions are assigned confidence levels based on the quality and quantity of supporting evidence. High confidence requires strong, corroborated evidence. Uncertainty is not a weakness — it is an honest measurement.
Character Emerges Through Patterns
Character is not revealed by a single action or a single moment. It emerges through patterns of behavior across time, across contexts, and across relationships. EBCR is the methodology for reconstructing those patterns.
Revision Is a Strength
When new evidence emerges, the reconstruction is updated. Revision is not a sign of failure — it is a sign of intellectual honesty. A discipline that cannot revise itself is not a discipline — it is a belief system.
Preserve Human Dignity
Every human life reconstructed is treated with dignity. Truth-telling does not require cruelty. Honesty and compassion are not opposites. The subject's humanity is always the center of the work.
AI Assists. Humans Decide.
Artificial intelligence may assist in organizing, searching, and surfacing evidence. But all interpretive conclusions are made by human beings who bear full responsibility for them. This principle is non-negotiable.
